New Whistleblowing regime in Hungary
Act XXV of 2023 on the Reporting of Complaints and Whistleblowing has been adopted, and announced. The Act transposes the 2019/1937 EU Whistleblowing Directive into Hungarian law and replaces the current Complaints Act. It is important to note that the Act will enter into force on the 60th day after its publication (on 24 July) for companies with more than 250 employees, and companies/service providers subject to the Anti-Money Laundering Act regardless of the number of employees.
New tax on some types of savings and investments
The Hungarian government is introducing a 13% social contribution on interest earned on some forms of savings and investments after 1 July. There are only two exceptions, which are the following: interest income from real estate funds and government securities.
