New regulation for online stores

According to a legislative change of 28 March 2024, companies with a warehouse in Hungary have to provide in their online stores the possibility of parcel delivery by the Hungarian Postal Service (“MPL”) of all goods that can be delivered according to the MPL's general terms and conditions ("GTC") in the case of business-to-consumer (“B2C”) relationships, i.e., when the purchaser is a consumer.

Increased consumer-protection fines

From 1 March 2024, companies are subject to significantly higher fines for breaching consumer protection laws. For instance, for companies with an annual net turnover of more than HUF 100 million (approximately EUR 256,400) that are not considered small or medium-sized enterprises, the maximum fines for infringements that harm or endanger the physical integrity or health of a wide range of consumers or cause significant financial harm to many consumers increased from HUF 2 billion (approximately EUR 5,128,000) to HUF 3 billion (approximately EUR 7,695,000).
