The Central Statistical Office (GUS) presented data describing in detail the results of individual industries in the period of I-II 2022. In this period, sold production of industry increased by 17.4% compared to the previous year.
In February alone, production increased by 17.6% y / y.
The sold production in construction in the period January - February this year was higher by 18.1% than in the previous year. In February alone, construction production increased by 21.2% compared to the same period last year.
Employment and wages
According to the Central Statistical Office (GUS) data on employment and wages in the entire enterprise sector, in the first two months of 2022 employment was 2.1% higher than in the previous year and was an average of 6,464K people. Employment in industry increased by 1.3% (average employment in industry in the period January-February 2022 was on average 2,764 K people).
The employment level in the period of I-II 2022 compared to the previous year increased, among others in warehousing and service activities supporting transport (by 18.0%), information and communication (by 10.4%), production of pharmaceutical products (by 9.7%) or accommodation and catering (by 8.5%). The largest declines in employment compared to the previous year were recorded in such industries as, among others: production of leather and leather products (by 11.5%), mining of hard coal and lignite (by 6.4%) and production of clothing (by 6,1%).
The average salary in the enterprise sector in the period from January to February 2022 was PLN 6,157 and was higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year by 10.9%.
Wages in the first two months of 2022 increased in all industries analyzed by the Central Statistical Office. The largest increases were observed in the case of tobacco products (by 15.7%) and accommodation and catering (by 15.4%). The lowest increases were seen in the printing industry (by 4.0%) or the production of beverages and the production of pharmaceutical products (in both cases an increase by 5.1%).
In the period of January-February 2022, the highest average level of remuneration was recorded in such industries as: information and communication (PLN 10,624) and mining of hard coal and lignite (PLN 10,431). The lowest salaries were offered in such industries as: production of clothing (PLN 3,929), production of leather and leather goods (PLN 4,140) or accommodation and catering (PLN 4,473).
Production and efficiency
In the period of January-February 2022, sold industrial production turned out to be 17.4% higher than in the previous year (data for February alone indicate an increase of 17.6% y / y). In the same period, sales in construction increased by 18.1% y / y.
The largest increases in production were recorded in the case of, among others: electricity, gas, steam and hot water production and supply (by 36.5%), hard coal and lignite mining (by 34.7%) and the production of pharmaceutical products (by 33.2%). The decline in production affected two industries analyzed by the Central Statistical Office: the production of leather and leather goods (by 5.0%) and the production of electrical devices (by 3.1%).
Productivity in industry in January-February this year grew by an average of 15.9%. The largest increases in efficiency were recorded, among others in hard coal and lignite mining (by 43.9%), in the production and supply of electricity, gas, steam and hot water (by 40.1%). Efficiency fell in one industry - the production of electrical appliances (by 7.6%).
In the first two months of this year both industry and construction presented surprisingly good results, higher - as was the case with industrial production - than market expectations. The March results may already show the first consequences of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, resulting in e.g. disrupting supply chains in many industries.
